For my 45th birthday, I got my CMP 1911 Colt 45 ACP!
(well, days before my 46th birthday, but I think I can claim 45th bday!)

My CMP 1911 Journey
Sept 4, 2018 I submitted my paperwork (fedex). I did not hear anything from CMP until June 2020. Once you are contacted, you have 5 days to respond with payment or they go to the next applicant. (miss their phone call/email, you really got to get back to them ASAP).
I love the finish, parkerized ! SN 220456xx My CMP 1911 has Colt Slide and RR (Remington rand I think) Frame. Came with only 1 magazine.
Service Grade is the nicest finish and most expensive at $1050.
See photos below. “United States Property” “M 1911 A1 U.S. Army”.
A big thank you to my friend Craig at https://www.lakemountainguns.com/ for helping with the FFL transfer and geeking out on the details of this piece of American history (IMO there isn’t much more American than a Colt 1911! (high work ethic, free economics, good families and good people, but you can’t buy those things!)
so…now I ONLY have FOUR 1911s….so far. 1. 100y anniversary Colt 1911 SS with rosewood grips 2. Ruger night watchman with glow in the dark sights (black). 3. Ruger target 1911 in 9mm (SS). Target sights and heavy barrel 4. CMP Colt 1911 from WW1 & WW2 era.
A special friend has a 1911 that I’d buy at any price. But, I think I’m going to have to wait a decade or two.
Some stats on winning the loto!
8000 1911s for CMP, can you believe they didn’t get a 2nd or 3rd batch?
I’m told there were about 20,000 applications within the 30 day window you could apply(I think its closer to 60,000).
If there was an error with the application, they were disregarded.
If they received the application before or after the window, they were disregarded.
The CMP requirements can be difficult to get, so having 20k people that meet those requirements and mail in their application within 30 days is pretty remarkable.
At one time, they said you could apply once a year, but there has only been ONE block of 8000 available.

1911 UPDATE – MAY 2018
While the National Defense Authorization Act granted transfer of a maximum of 10,000 1911s per year to the CMP, the Secretary of the Army allowed only 8,000 1911s to be transferred to the CMP for sale and distribution this fiscal year. Some of those are anticipated to be unusual and worthy of being auctioned. The remaining number will be sold based on a computerized Random Number Generator.
The CMP does not know what next year’s allotment might be.

A $1,050 Service Grade pistol “may exhibit minor pitting and wear on exterior surfaces and friction surfaces. Grips are complete with no cracks. Pistol is in issuable condition. Pistols may contain commercial parts.”
Since their sales programs began, the CMP has never had an issue with the resale of “their” guns. That is until the 1911s started making their way onto GunBroker. All of a sudden, this 501(c)3 organization has begun imposing rules on what lawful gun owners may and may not do with guns purchased from them. Rules that did not exist at the time of purchase, I might add.
Apparently, allowing the personal property of the new owners to be resold “was not the intention of the program.” A warning on their website notes that “if you are found to be reselling these pistols you will be banned from purchasing from the CMP for an indefinite period.”

If you love to geek out on Identifying 1911s or being super nerdy about Serial numbers etc. Please make comments below or in this gdoc >
I shot about 10 cartridges and each one was flawless! very smooth slide action. The mag it came with, the first round has to be slide in carefully, otherwise it won’t load in the mag properly. Modern mags will work just fine.
After I shot it, I cleaned it very very very throughly. Including taking the stocks off and wiping off that area and re-oiling/CLP.
So, I went from a KLR 650 to a wr450f because my riding buddies road very difficult technical single tracks and the klr 650 was wearing me out in 30 minutes. Where with a wr450f I could go 3 hours of extreme technical trails…that I would only last 30 minutes on a klr.
I suggest everyone own a KLR 650 and then decide if they want to do more highway/long range or more dirt. If you factor in price, you can not beat a klr 650 for adventuring IMO. Large fuel capacity, large gear capacity, but suckie on power and fun.
IMO, the best is to have a 450 for dirt and a 700/1000cc for adventuring.
So, this is the upgrades and modifications I did to my wr450f coming from a KLR.
MANY OF THESE UPGRADES CAN BE APPLIED TO MOST MOTORCYCLES
I wanted fuel injected wr450, so I purchased a 2012. I believe the first year of fuel injection for the wr450 is 2008.
UPGRADE 1: Removing the rekluse clutch.
I removed this for power gains and I wrecked and the bike was on top of me and wouldn’t stop spinning its tire on me, chewing me up a bit. I love having micro-controls with a real clutch. I can slip it when I want to and I can let it grab when I need to. Getting over logs or other technical obstacles, give me a real clutch any day!
UPGRADE2: Throttle Tamer
After doing a few hours of American Fork Canyon hiking trails, my forearm was painful for days, including most of a night. If I moved the throttle 1/16 of an inch, the bike would do an accidental wheelie…just as I’m near a cliff or trying to go up rock ledges or large roots. Now with the throttle tamer, I still have all the same power, I just can allow my throttle hand/arm to relax a lot and get to the power in a sane manner. It was WAY too snatchy before the throttle tamer!
I tried every possible way to carry a firearm on a motorcycle. Having a serpa holster makes the gun secure and allows for quickly deploying the gun in under 1 second. Also, I won’t break ribs with an underarm holster, nor lose my gun on a big bump/jump.
I can help you with a Motorcycle Holster Mount! Foxy MC Holsters!
Expensive, but worth it IMO. With a cable clutch, my left arm/hand would fatigue quickly slipping the clutch for long periods of time on hill climbs in very technical areas where you had to slow down and pick your way through roots, rock ledges etc.
UPGRADE6: trashing my Seat Concepts and getting a comfortable seat from Fisherseats!
I went on a 4 day adventure with 3 KRLs and after that my back hurt for weeks, in fact I injured it days after the 4 day adventure and I couldn’t walk for a few days. So, getting a custom seat was worth every penny!
I’m always surprised how many people say they love their seat concepts, when IMO they totally suck! They are not custom, they are fit most riders, but none well. Fishers seats are the best IMO!
I’m 6’5” and weigh about 220 lbs. So, the foam he uses is customized to me. The height of the seat is also customized to me. There is not downsides, I can stand and work the bike standing just as well as the stock seat, but when I need to rest/sit…I can sit a very very long time with a fisher seat!
Here is a testimonial for you! I trailered my crf1000l from Utah County to Boise area to have Dave Fisher have me, him and the bike in the same place at the same time so we could talk through and get my seat dialed in to perfection. Yes, I drove a long ways, but it was worth it!
The wr450f seat was my first Fisher seat and my crf1000l was my 2nd Fisher seat, but not my last! Every bike I own will get a Fisher seat! Its like motorcycle manufacturers purposely set the angle wrong for tall riders and it messes up our lower backs…quickly.
Get your seat fixed by Dave Fisher! NOT corbon and NOT seatconcepts.
UPGRADE7: Street legal kit
In Utah, its always best to start with a dirt bike that doesn’t have all the smog/gov scam crap on there that robs your horse power & torque. It is WAY cheaper and faster to put a street kit on then to try to de-smog your bike!
OMG, I love these and for $70 ish, these go on all my bikes! I have never broken a lever with a tusk handgaurd installed properly. I don’t carry spare levers anymore ether!
Pro-tip: bend in vice to ensure connecting bolt to handle bar is the correct angle.
Even with the larger gas tank, my range on the wr450f is 110 miles. Either the terian is challenging or I can’t stop myself from having fun with the throttle, so its all the bikes fault I don’t get good gas milage 😉
This kind of makes my handle bar “busy”, but in really difficult terrain, its a MUST HAVE. Using both feet to stabilize and still having a rear brake is priceless. Not to mention getting back on your bike in a sketchy spot allow you to keep the bike from slipping back down the hill. We all know facing up hill, the front brake will NOT hold your bike from sliding down hill. You could turn the bike off and keep it in gear, but at some point you got to start the bike back up.
UPGRADE14: LED bulb for headlight!
MUST have, increases lighting by 4x at least.
This might be the right one for wr450f, I’ve ordered a few of these for a few different bikes.
If you have two bikes, consider getting one spot and one flood light and put one of each on each bike.
Currently I only have one flood light on my wr450f and one flood on my drz400e.
UPGRADE16: double take mirrors
I know they are pricy, but they don’t break. At worst in hot weather and lots of vibrations, the ball may degrade, but if that happens get an aluminum ball. You got to check these out, they are pretty unbreakable!
OMG, on so many bikes, I have loved the micro adjustable clutch and brake levers. When I got my hydraulic clutch, I got rid of my adjustable clutch lever. Search ebay, these are really nice IMO.
UPGRADE18: Tubliss tires.
These make it pretty impossible to get a flat. However, you still need to keep the inner-tube at or near 100PSI. I’ve managed to do the impossible and had to redo my Tubliss tires several times.
I don’t think its worth it. Its expensive and the benefit is not as good as you think. Tubliss told me I’m 1 of 3 people that have put nails through their kevlar 100 PSI protector.
I’ve had to redo my front and rear. Not worth the Money IMO!
My bike was overheating on my American Fork hiking trails. So, I fabricated a shroud and installed this fan. I can turn it own when I think my bike might be working very hard to climb impossible hills.
SPAL 4 in 147 CFM Low Profile Electric Cooling Fan P/N 30103018
This works great! Between blue ice, and this fan, I have not had a problem with my bike over heating…unless I lay it over and all the blue ice dumps out.
IMO, this the most important upgrade! I know ridered sucks, but you should go to the basic at least once and go to the intermediate every other year or if you get a new bike. Slipping your clutch and dragging your rear brake for slow maneuvers is so so key on and off the road!
On this note, I hired 1:1 training from http://dualsportschool.com/sign-up/ worth every penny! This will save you thousands of dollars, prevent/reduce injury. I’d say, do the gov training with rider ed, get about 1000 hours of dirt time and then hire dual sport school and you should be good to go.
I’ve trained a lot of riders with bluetooth intercoms, training is accelerated 10x with comms! I can talk through it, demo it and then give them instant/real time feedback as they are practicing a challenge.
UPGRADE21: Rider personal protective equipment (PPE) gear!
I have seen so many people get hurt, go to the hospital and have a long long recovery because they didn’t have the correct training and because they didn’t have the correct gear!
BOOTs: get the right boots brothers/sisters! Alpine stars tech7 is my recommendation.
Knee guards: wear them inside your pants so they don’t slip to the side when you need them most.
Back: d3o is high tech armor, it flexs when warmed up by body heat, and during impact is removes a great deal of impact. I have d3o on my gloves, knee, hip and back protection!
Don’t waste your money on anything else, just buy this and be good to go in the heat:
I do NOT go riding with people unless they have their PPE squared away!
UPGRADE 22: Bluetooth helmet intercoms.
What can I say, they are expensive and a pain to use, but they are worth it!
Safety…hey, watch out for xyz, including other vehicles. “That is a stop sign…”
Navigation. Why waste hours of getting lost and taking the wrong turn!
Enjoyment, with comms, you can talk as you ride and not having to stop all the time and talk.
The list goes on, get comms! I started with cardo, then went sena and came back to cardo.
UPGRADE 23: green chili adv straps and bags
The green shili extreme soft rack is awesome because you can move it from bike to bike, allows you to slide off the back of your dirt bike or attach a giant loop for a multi-day adventure.
I love their strapping system and their bottle holsters. I got two for my wr450f. One for tools and one for fluids (anything heavy).
Many say they can improvise a jack stand with 2×4, wood/rocks from the wild, but when you need a jack stand, you REALLY need a jack stand.
UPGRADE 25: 2nd rear wheel.
If you are trying to get one bike to do everything you need, this is critical. With two wheels, I can customize one for street with smaller sprocket for higher speeds with a shinko 244 50/50 tire AND I can customize the other wheel for dirt with a large sprocket for “granny gear” with a full knobby tire. Takes about 5 minutes to swap between the two wheels.
I often bring the other wheel in case the tire goes flat, I’ll have the other one handy (I keep it in the truck or trailer).
I found my extra wheel on ebay.
UPGRADE 26: heated fly gloves
I got these instead of heated grips because I wanted to be able to use them on other machines and other use-cases. They are a bit thick, but if I’m doing a winter adventure, I’m not likely doing highly technical riding. I can charge them on my bike, which was a priority1 for me.
You can save some massive weight with a lithium battery. I got the tusk one so it was not too over priced. For my wr450f it requires very high cold cranking apps (CCA), but lithium doesn’t have the best CCA, so I often kick start my bike when its cold. Once it warms up the estart works great!
I have 3 ram mounts, but more recently I found a wireless charger xgrip similar to ram mount (without high prices), the thing I LOVE is the taller xgrip so I don’t have to mess with the rubber bands to keep my phone.
I can move this wireless charger from my big bike to my 450 using anderson power poll connectors.
One downside is, the wr450f is usually in rough terrain, so the wireless charging is spotty. I never had issues charging my phone on the crf1000l, but it usually is doing dirt roads or “sane trails”.
I can’t tell you how many cables I’ve rattled to death.
I know this is super personal, but I’d like to give my opinion.
Super super aggressive on the front tire. Why, because you don’t want your front tire to slip…and the front tire is less likely to wear as quickly as the rear. Replace the rear 2x for every 1x on the front!
In fact, if they had dsport tires for my crf1000l, I think I’d try them!
UPGRADE 32: clear coat with film rear side panels
I really jack’d my side panels up with saddle bags (giant loop) on a 4 day adventure, so I replaced them and then had them coated with film from the local tint guy. This will protect them from rubbing and most scratches.
You really need to upgrade your foot pegs for your own safety!
I couldn’t find these to fit my wr450f, but these are my fav so far!
UPGRADE 38: Go pro helmet mount
I think I’ve tried every possible mount, but my fav is a chin mount so I can see if my camera runs out of battery/disk space or even if it is working properly.
I warned my LFD newsletter of this virus Jan 31, 2020.
Jan 31st seems like a long time ago, but that is when I sent the first warning email about this virus. Thanks Jeff for the heads up on the corona virus. I’ve had a few people thank me, that are major preppers. Getting a few last minute preps squared away. If you claim you are a prepper and you are going to the store last minute to get items to go 2-6 weeks….I got news for you, you have not been preparing for life.Being prepared means you are prepared for all emergencies. job loss, sickness, car wreck….or man made ones or natural disasters.
I’m not too much into following the gov media with their propaganda. Here are some of the sources I look to for info:Details from an expert, not the gov media!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E3URhJx0NSw
Just like stepping on a snake, if you under react when you “assume” is a stick…and it turns out to be a snake you get hurt!If you over react, because you think every stick is a snake…you wear yourself out. having the correct response by not over reacting and not under reacting. It may not be this time, but sometime we will have major event where we need to shelter in place for 30-60 days. Take this opportunity to take notes on how to be prepared for the big one that is still coming.
My advice!
1. Mental – all things be prepared if our minds are prepared!take 10 deep breaths and use the best weapon/tool we have…your mind. Be mentally tough/never surrender! 2. Help your neighbors – we are all on the same team, spread love & kindness (be Christlike…even in the face of death….especially in the face of death –we are all terminal, prepared for this life and the next
3. start a gratitude journal – write down what you are grateful for daily.4. live in the present and prepare for the future
to me, I’m grateful for the following
1. we home school, so our kids don’t go to the festering gov schools and get sick (physically and mentally)2. My profession allows me to work from home or remote. 3. We are pretty squared away. We want to help those in need.4. The timing is pretty good, we are almost to the summer and that should help a lot. Things I wish I had1. bunker ranch 2. I’m pretty addicted to sugar and I know that affects my immunity. Maybe a 72 hour fast from sugar! (I’ve gone almost 4 years w/o gov soda, so I should be able to do so). I WANT TO HELP YOU! My issue was that I could not get the expansion bolt into the handlebar because something was in the way. Turns out its a anti-vibration brass rod that can be easily removed with needle nose pliers.
Tusk D-Flex Pro Adventure Handguards White 1 1/8″ Bars Fits: 2017 KTM 1090 Adventure R
The africa twin handle bar is 1 1/8 or there abouts. I need longer bolts, which I will buy for the handlebar clamp (Ace hardware).
see, something is inside the bar preventing the expansion bolt.once you get the brass bar started, you can pull it out easily. TIP: your riding jacket can hold onto your small parts when you are working on your bikeleftover parts
Emergency and non-emergency communications for motorcycles.
I’ve spent a lot of time and effort improving comms on motorcycles and wanted to share what has worked well for me.
Please note PTT on left handlebar, BT hub & Ham Radio. I keep the BT hub & radio in the tank bag. I have small tethers on the BT hub and radio so they stay close to the top w/o bouncing too much. The BT hub had a large button that I don’t want pressed on accident, so I keep that on top. Note the BT intercom on the helmet, which talks to the BT hub. The BT hub is wired to the radio and PTT
How I solved the Motorcycle Helmet Bluetooth Intercom distance issue!
As mentioned, these Sena/Packtalk distance SUCKS! especially in the wilderness with trees/rocks/mountains etc. Now, if you are in a cave/hole even this solution is going to be limited, but once you or your riding buddy is out of the cave, you should be back on track for 10-15 miles.
SHOPPING LIST:
You are going to need a radio (2 radios for long distances, say 1 radio for the rider in the front and 1 radio for the rider in the back (sweeper). Uv5r is a good starting point, especially for motorcycles you would take into the wilderness(you are not going to mount a 50 watt radio). $23 on amazon > https://amzn.to/3boO1G5
Bluetooth “hub”. This is one of the pricy parts(if you are trying to save a buck, sometimes amazon has used ones that have been return -if it doesn’t work send it back)! Sena SR10-10 Bluetooth Adapter for Two-Way Radios or Mobile Phones https://amzn.to/2Svmhae
This comes with a Push to talk (PTT) that goes on your handle bars(two different sizes that seem to be “universal” to me).
Next you need your choice of helmet intercoms to connect to the bluetooth hub. I’ve tested sena 10, sena 30k & packtalks. https://amzn.to/2tLoqWW
EMI filter, these go on the PTT cable to reduce EMI.
tank bag or something to hold the radio & BT hub. Why go to all this trouble and have your radio on your person or pack? You would need some kind of PTT on your person too. Best to keep it all on the bike, except your BT intercom inserted into your helmet.
How it works. Your bluetooth helmet intercom pairs with your phone (podcasts/phone calls/waze cop-alerts etc) and your helmet intercom also pairs with the bluetooth hub on a 2nd BT pair/channel. I’ll be listening to a podcast and someone transmits over the radio and the podcast is paused while they are transmitting and it auto goes back to the podcast when they are done. If I transmit, same drill (Podcast paused).
The way I run this with my son who rides with me. We pair our bluetooth intercoms together and they have a mesh BT intercom, if we get disconnected. It auto-reconnects when we are close enough. When we are in BT intercom mode, it is VOX/voice activated so we don’t push any buttons, we just talk. But, if we are beyond the 200 yards, we go to the radio > ptt > bt hub > helmet intercom insert and can talk 10-15 miles using the UV5R ham radio. Maybe I should make a video to demo this!
We also have our UV5R pre-programmed for the repeaters (most of the repeaters in our state), just in case.
The great thing about the BT hub and BT intercom inserted into your helmet is I can talk to other vehicles on their radio too, or just about anyone in the area that is on freq.
I’ve tried several things that have not worked well.
$20 wired connection from helmet to PTT on the handle bars integrating a UV5r ham radio. I always broke the wires, just connecting and reconnecting every time you got on/off the bike wore them out. I’m sure wrecking my dirt bike a few times didn’t help ether.
The over priced sena/packtalks that barely go 100 yards and are stupid complicated for something you paid over $200 per unit.
lanyard with radio around someones neck and the cheapo mic and ear piece. I still have this setup if I ride with someone that doesn’t have the right equipment. I’ve wasted hours trying to ride with someone that doesn’t have comms. Navigation sucks, safety sucks. Its just a problem when you get separated or have to ride so close that you are eating dust non-stop.
Best solution for Motorcycle Communications (currently).
When I ride alone, I take my ham radio anyways, because if I get hurt, lost or broken down (or all three at the same time) and I can’t use my cell phone(I often ride where cell phone coverage is not possible). I want a way to communicate; just in case.
Many of these practices have saved my life…time and time again! Getting dark, soaked wet from sweat and it will be about freezing. Not enough water to make it out w/o proper comms/navigation! etc etc
Using the BT hub & BT Intercom combined with a HAM Radio allows you to have wireless & long distant comms on a motorcycle.
Without comms, multi-motorcycle adventures can cause delays because you stop to talk/navigate. You spend hours looking for separated riders. Eat each others dust.
Besides, being able to communicate makes the riding experience 10x funner!
I’ve often thought when my eyes are not so good, I’ll get a reddot. Well, getting a host ready for a suppressor has sped up my interest in reddots.
My dream suppressor pistol would be a Sig P320 45 ACP in carry (full sized grip and 4″ barrel) with threaded barrel, suppressor high night sights and slide cut for a reddot. Sig says they will not make a 45 acp threaded, so I found an almost brand new P320 compact 9mm, threaded and non-threaded barrel (2 barrels), suppressor high sights (night sights), with cut slide with three magazines AND Sig Romeo 1 red dot optic for $750.
I have a 5″ p320 in 9mm and a carry p320 in .357 sig (they share the same serial number), adding a P320 compact RX makes it so I have an upper slide 5″ and a 4″ upper slide that can be swapped easily between complete p320 lower.
MY observations of RedDot pistol
optic excels at fast shots, especially close up
suppressor sights don’t work so go in default holster(s) and it drags heavily on the sight groove, even after heat gunning it.
Reddot prevents pushing the gun into the holster and it is slightly “out” by 1/4″(in a cheapo holster the guns often come in) – I wonder if bladtech would clear the optic?.
The sig threaded barrel uses a non-standard thread pitch.
Optic bounces around a lot and the shooter may be tempted to make the gun fire as the red dot comes into the center of the target instead of properly getting the “surprise break” by adding continuous pressure to the trigger.
Type 2 malfunctions are near impossible. Thus I found myself doing Type1 response of Tap, Rack, Flip. (I’m trying to use up my large supply of junky home-land ammo remanufactured ammo (which has brass and powder issues).
reddot indoors looks big, but outdoors the 3 MOA dot looks small.
Iron sights work much better for precision shooting…for me(over 1000 hours of professional training…with iron sights).
Slightly different presentation, kind of the last few inches the gun might pop up and show the red dot. Think of you have 20,000 repetitions and the red dot is slightly higher, so you adjust down to where you are used to presenting the gun to eye level.
In short, I would not take a marksmanship matters class with a reddot because we do a lot of precision shooting and the optic IMO (currently) is much better at fast shooting and not so good at slower/precision shooting.
Options – too many options
From the photos, you’ll see there are a ton of options with these P320s. If you have not heard, you can move the trigger group (that has the SN) from one lower to another in less than a minute. Which means if you are in a state where the gov makes it difficult for you to buy protection tools, you can get one SN and a few different p320s xchange kits like a compact, carry or full sized p320 as well as 9mm, 40 and or .357 sig (45 acp).
I’m putting the 5″ upper slide into my P320 compact RX “kit bag”. Better there than in the safe doing nothing w/o a SN.
only 6 mags for 9mmLeft to right full sized p320 (5″) 9mm, p320 carry (full sized grip with 4″ barrel) .357 sig & p320 9mm RX compact (smaller grip with 4″ barrel)Motorcycle quick access holster. Note optic clears the holster just fine (and not high sights dragging).
SUMMARY:
I’m really happy with the P320. I think its a fair price for night sights, great trigger, excellent reliability, and I like the way it looks & feels. I like the modularity/almost endless swapping of options. Only 21+1 magazines in 9mm 😉
About the only downsides is the mags are a bit more pricy than competitors. But I LOVE the mags, empty drop free/black steel. If you care about ergonomics, you’ll agree the Military choose the correct firearm to replace the M9/Glocks (30 year old technology) etc.
WHAT: Get-home kit build workshop (think of it as a specialized 72 hr kit)
WHY: to have a small “discrete” pack with essentials ready in your vehicle if you were required to walk home from work or other travels.
WHEN: Jan 15th, 2020 at 7pm-8pm at Thomas’ house in Saratoga (address sent to those that signup)
DETAILS: bring a pack you already own or purchase one, bring common house hold items like wet wipes/snacks and other items you’d want in your pack.
Thomas will present for 15-20 minute discussion on “get home kits” (likely more used and more important than a 72 hour kit.) safe water, communication, safety and self-care.
After the discussion, we will build for 20 minutes (bring common house hold items to assemble in your kit/pack and my 10 donated prepper items).
When I’m on adventures, cell phone reception is spotty at best. You never know when/where you will have an emergency, so being able to communicate is critical.
In the last 30 days, I’ve had several friends need medical attention in the wilderness. Ranging from a pickup truck ride to the hospital to a life flight to save his life.
There are a few options outside of cell signals, including a naval beacon or a satellite locator/messenger.
If it was just me, I would purchase the garmin inreach mini because I don’t like garmins as a gps/mapping system and prefer the gaia gps.
There is a huge sale on garmin inreach systems, camelcamelcamel shows the lowest price ever!
I’m getting this version because it is selfcontained and can be time-shared and can be used for many purposes.
At this point in my life, it takes a lot of convincing to add another system to my inventory (larger than most and my life is super busy and I can’t enjoy them all)
I already own several 300 blk ar15 style systems, including a pistol version.
I really love my 10.5” 300 blk pistol and the sb tactical “brace”.
sig 516 above in FDE and 300 blk pistol suppressed below (black)
I’ve had the bug for a MCX for a long time. I’ve owned the sig556 (heavy…ak like). My main ar “go to war” system is a sig516. But, I felt I needed a 300 blk “pistol” that wasn’t as long as my sig516 with the can on it.
I almost made a mistake and bought the Sig mcx rattler canebrake. Last minute I found out the other MCX barrels will NOT fit the rattler nor canebrake.

My favorite reddot is the holosun 515c (it has solar and auto adjust for the lighting, turns on/off automatically. has a battery backup.
Like most sigs, gen1 has a bug or two. So it is with the mcx. Thanks nutnfancy for getting that fixed.
What are some general thumbs down for legal implications with “rifle pistols”?
Q: can you put tape on the brace? A: I don’t think so. what do you think?
Q: Can you put a 16″ barrel on a rifle pistol? A: I think so. You get in trouble putting a shorter than 16″ barrel on a rifle, but putting a longer than 16″ barrel on a pistol seems ok. What do you think?
Q: Can you shoulder a rifle pistol brace? A: I think it depends and changes frequently. Best to put it on your chest
Q: Can you put a vertical grip on a rifle pistol? A: I don’t think so, as that is a rifle feature.
Q: Can you put a rifle stock on a rifle pistol? A: Only after you get an NFA tax stamp

I’ve been testing this for a while now and I highly recommend it to you.I’ve tried other solutions, but they had their downsides. a simple writing device/implement!I’ve tried thin-sharpies, they break or bleed or get lost. I’ve broken, bleed and lost many. Luckily they are cheap, but then you don’t have your writing implement!
well loved multi-tool, notice silver pen!
If you are looking for this “no longer produced” sog multitool duo, I’m sorry. Its big brother is highly recommended, but is a lot heavier.
