Did I mention this AR10 only weights 6.8 lbs?!?!

My Sig MCXs in 5.56 and 300 blackout weight more than this Ruger SFAR 308!

This is BY FAR, the LIGHTEST AR10 I’ve ever seen!

DESCRIPTION: I purchased the Ruger SFAR via instructor discount for about $860. I made my instructor order within a couple of days of its release!

But only took two weeks for it to show up at my FFLs.

I took my Aero Precision and Super Sniper 3-9 scope along with my SFAR to do some quick tests last night.

I was excited to compare the two AR10s.  Which parts are compatible and which parts are not. Compare size/weight/function of both.

Aero Prec ar10/m5 is 1:10 18” barrel and weights about 2.4 lbs MORE than the SFAR 16”

SUMMARY: For a less than 200 yard 308, I really really love the SFAR and would choose it at the top of my list in a gun fight! for its weight, capacity and knock down power. It feels like a normal ar15 (size/weight) and hits like a 308, because it IS a 308/7.62×51!  Will it replace my Aero Precision M5? No, unless I can get much much better groups by removing muzzle brake and adding suppressor (or something unknown to me at this time)

Optic I plan to put on my SFAR: https://www.primaryarms.com/primary-arms-slx-3x-microprism-with-red-illuminated-acss-raptor-762-300bo-reticle-yard

PHOTOS:

Left= SFAR 308 16” next to M5 308 18”. Notice M5 “heavy duty everything”, I guess this is where the 2.4 lbs comes from! Much bigger bolt and upper/lower and barrel.

Left to right (standard ar15 BCG, middle=SFAR, right=AR10 BCG.  Note length of ar and SFAR are the same/similar. Note SFAR only has one bolt for the gas head.

Left= AR15 charging handle, middle=SFAR, right=AR10/m5 charging handle. I LOVE the Aero Precision Breach charging handles. I wish I could afford to put them on all my ARs!

Poor SFAR groups at 50 yards. I even tried 175 grain Sierra Match Kings (SMK). Then I used 4 mixed “bag” 308 in my aero Prec ar10/m5 and got them all to touch(what I had with me, 2 left over from SFAR test and two that were in my shooting mat). I moved this scope to a 5.56 ar and it was pretty close to POI, not so moving it to the SFAR 308! WAY off by 10 or so inches!

Aero Precision point of aim (POI) was upper left corner of the post it note. So pretty ideal POI (point of impact) for 50 yards.

One thing I have not seen before, is the bolt adding sharp tabs to the back of the brass when extracting. I wonder if this will continue with usage?  Yeah, it kind of hurt when I poked myself. If you look close, you can see the 4 cartridges that came out of the M5, which does NOT have the tabs cut into the brass.

Left is aero upper next to SFAR lower, yeah, not even close to fitting. Right=aero lower with SFAR upper, yeah, NOT even close to fitting.
