A few months ago, I read Larry Mudgett’s .357 sig article and thought, I need a compact predator defense system for off road (motorcycling and UTV’n).

SMALL PREDATOR DEFENSE SYSTEM: p320 .357 sig compact in shoulder holster/under arm holster.
MEDIUM PREDATOR DEFENSE SYSTEM: 10mm
LARGE PREDATOR DEFENSE SYSTEM: Ruger super redhawk 5″ 454 casull with my custom leather holster I made.

Having the goal of never owning another glock (I’ve owned 4-5 of them; I can afford better… to see pros/cons of glocks…not perfection, though I have tried to like them), I looked at my current systems and thought. I have a sig p320 9mm full sized, I wonder how much it would cost to get a x-change conversion kit. It was back ordered and took brownells a while to get it to me, but it finally came.

The xchange kit  ($320 with coupon & onsale) is cool, comes with basically a full gun with mag…except you don’t get the SN trigger control group. So new upper and new lower and NIGHT SIGHTS. You do need to keep your take-down pin.

Downside is mags are $40 each for the p320. Other than that, they seem pretty ideal. I love the trigger, looks & feel of the p320.

Where the xchange kit really shines is if you live in a commie state and it takes you months to be able to protect yourself/self-defense and you can add options (size/caliber) with one SN trigger control group (The gun according to the govt).

I thought about making a custom holster, but found this spectre under arm holster and so far, I really like it because of the elastic tether, wide straps and elastic around the critical spots. The hardware looks tough and hard to break too.

I also got 200 rds of 125 gr FMJ underwood ammo (Larry recommended)…and I got a couple of boxes of 147 gr HP hornady for 2 legged predators (first mag is HP and the 2nd mag is FMJ in case threats are behind “soft-cover”).

Didn’t have the holster an hour and I already drilled it to ensure the mag pouch had enough retention for motorcycle off road use (The mag fell out of the spare mag pouch when I was doing the dishes).

Recall, this is the off road motorcycle system…and UTV system, so everything needs to be TIGHT.

I was hoping to get it all together and go shoot it the day I got it, but I got sucked into fixing my sprinklers and working through issues…that I always have after a winter.

Pulling the SN trigger control group out of the p320 was pretty easy.
The slide lock gave me some fits…as the kit came with a different one.  But, I finally got it all together and working.

The wide straps, the cool g-hook that tethers to your belt(or belt loop), the elastic/bungie in key areas, make this an awesome holster. They did a great job on it. I’ll update this blog as I get more miles with the holster & p320.
I really don’t want to make these hoslters. I will likely make just the holster part for xdm 10mm and keep the straps etc, so I can swap back and forth…but I think they sell that kit for $80 ish, so might be worth just buying it.

I DO like the kydex snap-in/snap-out w/o a strap.
I’m just wondering, how it’ll do with the motorcycle. My leather galco light never let me down with retention off road.

I think I’ll go for a “hard ride” without one in the chamber and see how it goes.
I might figure out how to add retention….great thing about kydex!

I think it was close to $180 ish delivered for the specter holster.

Next day, I shot the .357 sig and really enjoyed the power and thump of this “compact .357 sig”. Shoots a bit high, but I really need to do better with isometric tension, but I think the night sights have part of the blame.
Motorcycling with the specter underarm holster was so perfect. With the tether, I almost never felt it bouncing around off road. The spectre held the p320 secure and with my riding jacket open a bit, I can deploy it.  With my offroad gloves, I can get to the trigger and shoot it, but not super precision. The street gloves are too thick and have too much armor on them to work the trigger.
I’d say in a compact version, the recoil is somewhere between a 40sw compact and a 10mm full sized…or about the same as a 10mm full sized. Which the first few shots felt like a lot of recoil, but I got more used to it as I went along with my two mags…slow fire. p320 did well, no FTF and no FTE and slide locked open just fine. Its fun to shoot!
